The Australian Government, through NEHTA, has outlined plans for the two exchanges to move to new specifications based on an XML-based markup standard known as HL7 CDA (Common Document Architecture). These plans and specifications are still being finalised by NEHTA and Standards Australia. The first draft of the specifications was released by NEHTA seven months after eRx was live across Australia.
eRx contributes professional time and knowledge to the Standards Australia Working Group that is developing the new specifications.
